We know that the future of education and professional life is digital. Therefore, it is important for us to prepare our students for the challenges of digital, lifelong learning even during their school years. On the path of digitizing instruction, we have already taken many steps. Our classrooms and specialized rooms are equipped with digital Cleartouch© displays and PCs. The school cloud IMS and video teaching during the Corona pandemic have already made digital learning a matter of course at the Kurpfalz boarding school. ## iPad©-supported teaching We have fully digitized the teaching at Kurpfalz Internat in 2023. All grade levels have since been working with managed iPads©. With this step, we aim to further strengthen the digital skills of our students and take advantage of the benefits of digital teaching with iPads. In advance, we engaged intensively with schools that have accumulated several years of experience using iPads©. They convinced us that the iPad© is not a toy for students in the classroom, but a educational tool that not only replaces traditional textbooks but also enables the use of a variety of educational apps, providing a new dimension to learning. Digital worksheets, learning tests, and digital notes allow for the consolidation of content and the organized retention of results in just one device, which can be conveniently taken anywhere. ## iPad© as a managed device for school The iPad© at Kurpfalz Internat is purely an instructional device, with apps and access centrally controlled by the school administration through the JAMF platform. Neither personal apps can be installed nor can the iPad© be used outside of designated time windows for non-educational activities. Our students do not receive a multifunctional gaming device but rather a work tool for school purposes. A personal Apple ID cannot be integrated. This ensures that the iPad is a purely educational device without apps like TikTok, Instagram, or SnapChat. ## Free Apple iPad© The school has decided on the Apple iPad as the student device, which is provided free of charge by the Kurpfalz boarding school. In the 2022/2023 school year, our teachers were additionally prepared for the introduction of the iPad© as a teaching device through digital training. They provide quick access to digital learning materials – an optimal preparation for studies and professional life. Especially practical for boarding school students: All textbooks are stored digitally and can easily be taken home on weekends or during holidays. No. All students receive a free, fully equipped iPad from the Kurpfalz boarding school – including all necessary apps. No. The iPad is exclusively a teaching device at Kurpfalz Internat. All apps and access are managed centrally via the JAMF platform by the school administration. Personal apps cannot be installed, and use outside of the specified learning times is excluded. The iPad clearly serves as a tool – not as a gaming device. Our teachers are specifically trained for digital teaching. The iPad is used intentionally and purposefully – for collaborative projects, research, presentations, or as a digital textbook. Yes. The iPads can also be used in free time – for example, for homework, research, or creative projects. The usage is guided pedagogically and clearly structured. For younger students, there are also additional time and content restrictions. We provide fast and straightforward support: In the event of technical problems, the iPad will be replaced immediately if necessary, ensuring that classes continue without interruption. Regular backups ensure that all notes and data in GoodNotes© can be transferred to the new device without any issues – lost documents are a thing of the past. Every study depends on its environment and its framework conditions. We also view the use of private iPads without restrictions critically – apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, or TikTok are very distracting. Therefore, our iPads are technically configured to only allow the use of educational applications.
