Experiencing Europe up close: K0 excursion to Strasbourg
How does the European Parliament actually work? And what does Europe feel like when you suddenly find yourself right in the middle of Strasbourg? The K0 students experienced exactly that on an interdisciplinary excursion combining civics, geography and French. Between the old town, a boat trip and the plenary chamber, they gained fascinating insights into politics, culture and Europe.
On 29 April 2026, the K0 classes went on an interdisciplinary excursion to Strasbourg together with Ms Yalcinkaya, Ms Deibert and Ms Mühlböck. The aim was not only to teach the students about Europe in theory in the classroom, but to let them experience political, geographical and cultural connections first-hand.
Strasbourg showed its special character from the very start of the day. On a boat trip through the city, the students discovered its impressive blend of historic old town and modern European politics from a completely new perspective. The route passed small bridges, historic buildings and the famous cathedral before reaching the European Parliament.
There, the students gained a direct insight into the work of the European Union. A particular highlight was visiting the public gallery of the plenary chamber, from where they could observe the political work of the European Parliament.
In the information session that followed, a speaker explained the tasks and working methods of the European Parliament and answered the students’ questions. It became clear just how many decisions affecting everyday life in Europe are prepared and made at European level.
After the political part of the excursion, there was also time to explore Strasbourg independently. Many took the opportunity to visit the historic old town, stroll through its narrow streets or enjoy the special atmosphere around the famous cathedral.
