Sunny ideas for the mobility of the future

As part of the scientific and technical education (NwT), the 9b class has engaged intensively with the topic “Renewable Energies – Mobility of the Future.” The goal of the project was to design a functional solar car that is powered solely by solar energy.

The students of the Kurpfalz boarding school were tasked with planning, building, and then testing a solar car under real outdoor conditions. Not only technical creativity and craftsmanship were at the forefront, but also teamwork within the project groups. The evaluation of the vehicles was carried out according to established criteria. This included, among other things, the construction and functionality of the vehicle, the documentation in the project report, as well as the achieved driving performance on the test track.

On Wednesday, the practical test took place in the schoolyard under bright sunshine. All teams proudly presented their vehicles and sent them out on the racetrack. Julie’s solar car was particularly impressive. It reached the goal first and was thus crowned the fastest solar car of the year.

The project has impressively shown how exciting and practical science and technology education can be, and what great potential lies in renewable energies.
