Kirsten Lehmann meets former student: Sebastian Menck

Kirsten Lehmann meets a former graduate: “Through the Rough to the Stars” – a film about motivation and determination.

Sebastian Menck completed his Abitur at Kurpfalz Internat in 2015. During his time at KPI, he participated in the Extreme Obstacle Race project under Raffael Zeller. Through the training in this project, Sebastian realized that effort pays off and that one can achieve goals through dedication and commitment. This insight has shaped Sebastian’s work ethic in the upper school at Kurpfalz Internat, and he still lives and trains by this principle today.

Sebastian is currently studying forestry in Hamburg and is about to graduate. He has maintained and even expanded his determination and interest in sports and obstacle racing. Sebastian is part of the German national team in OCR (Obstacle Course Racing). Last year, he represented Germany at the World Championships in Canada. “From the rough to the stars” is his motto to motivate himself and give his best. This also means getting up at 4:30 AM to train.

I, Kirsten Lehmann, was able to visit Sebastian in Hamburg and train with him. A film has been created about Sebastian, about hard training, about motivation and determination, about friendship and the beautiful feeling that a connection endures even when you no longer see each other daily.

Dear Sebastian, thank you very much for your patience, your encouraging words, and your understanding. It was a great pleasure to meet you and train with you. I learned a lot about ambition, about achieving goals, about hard training, and about myself. And yes, it felt a bit like coming home.
