From Gaiberg to Bammental – How it all began

How an old villa in Bammental became a modern learning place: A look back at our beginnings shows how the Kurpfalz boarding school has grown – in space, digitally, and in spirit. Back then as now, it’s all about one thing: space for learning, living, and the future.

Earlier

When the Kurpfalz boarding school was founded in Gaiberg in 1961, classes initially took place above a tavern. The desire for more space for teaching and boarding life quickly grew.

In 1968, Erna Lehmann, the founder of the Kurpfalz boarding school, acquired a property with an old building in Bammental. Just a year later, in 1969, the boarding school moved to Bammental. The historic villa became the new center of boarding school life. Space was created for 70 students. That same year, the vacation course was held for the first time – our present-day Summer School.

The picture shows the villa and the then “new” school building. And right in the middle: Mario Lehmann. He actively participated in the renovation.

And today?

The drone footage showcases it impressively: Next to the historic villa and the former “old school building,” today stands the new school building of the Kurpfalz boarding school. It houses modern science classrooms, a light-flooded atrium as a central meeting place, and fully digitally equipped classrooms and specialized rooms. Interactive screens have long been a standard for us. In this way, the Kurpfalz boarding school connects history with the present – and creates space for collective learning, research, and growth.
