Moritz is the managing director of “Distelhäuser Brauerei Ernst Bauer GmbH & Co. KG” and continues the family tradition in the seventh generation in Tauberbischofsheim.

Moritz Bauer successfully completed his high school diploma at the Kurpfalz Boarding School in 2015. Afterwards, Moritz began a dual study program in brewing and beverage technology. After that, he began his training as a brewer and maltster at “Meckatzer Löwenbräu Benedikt Weiß KG.” Additionally, Moritz completed the business management program at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Munich and Upper Bavaria and the business management program for the beverage industry.

From the ground up

After his studies and training, Moritz gained work experience in various breweries to prepare for taking over the management of the Distelhäuser Brewery – family-owned since 1876. He worked among others at the “Stiegl Brewery in Salzburg GmbH,” at the “Baden State Brewery Rothaus AG,” at the “Private Brewery Jacob Stauder GmbH & Co. KG,” and at “Paulaner Distribution Company mbH.”

From March to June 2023, Moritz went through all departments at “Distelhäuser” before officially taking over the position of managing director. At the end of the “onboarding,” Moritz presented his visions for the future in a one-hour presentation to the employees, aiming to engage them both intellectually and emotionally.

Moritz Bauer is one of the youngest brewery managers nationwide and is responsible for 120 employees. The Distelhäuser Brewery is part of the medium-sized breweries in the German beer landscape. The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) awarded the Distelhäuser Brewery Ernst Bauer GmbH & Co. KG with the Federal Award of Honor for the seventh time in April. Currently, more than 18 different specialty beers are produced in Distelhausen. New to the program: The “Thistle Strolch” – a cola mix lemonade.

Great gratitude – great emotions

I, Kirsten Lehmann, had the pleasure of visiting Moritz in the beautiful Distelhausen and getting a behind-the-scenes look at the family brewery. A film has been created about Moritz, about tradition and modernity, about love for the product and for the craft, about passion and responsibility.

Dear Moritz, thank you so much for an unforgettable day in Distelhausen. Your kindness, your dedication, your warmth, your competence, your sense of responsibility, your family values, your attentiveness, and your listening will be remembered for a long time. The visit with you was like a hug – like a warm blanket. Moritz, I accompanied you in person almost ten years ago on your way to the Abitur, and now I have witnessed how you have transformed from a friendly, polite, charming, and curious student into a charismatic, team-oriented, visionary, dedicated, competent, and professional family entrepreneur.

I think back with gratitude and pride to my visit with you – and a little, like the “bubbles” of carbon dioxide, emotions of nostalgia and melancholy still rise when I think of my visit with you. Thank you for letting me accompany and visit you. Short: “You are a fine fellow – hats off!”
